 A DESCRIPTIVE MEMOIR OF MALABAR

“A descriptive Memoir of Malabar” enumerates the details of the survey undertaken by Lt. Ward in the Malabar region of Kerala. The survey was undertaken in July 1824. The date of completion of the Malabar Survey is not known. However Lt. Ward stayed in Malabar till 1830 to undertake a separate survey of Wayanad. A Descriptive Memoir of Malabar was printed in 1906 at Calicut.

Like the Travancore & Cochin Survey Memoirs, descriptive memoir of the province of Malabar was prepared according to a uniform pattern, giving details of its situation, extent, divisions, rivers, hills, mountains, roads, mines, soils, population, cattle, climate etc., under different heads. Special attention was given in preparing the register of villages with reference to Trigonometrically stations. Importance of every village was noted in the table.
